Ambattur Rotary Hospital
Introduction
This Project was born out of a dream by few enthusiastic and Active Rotarians of R.C.Ambattur, who dreamt of providing health care services to the public of Ambatur and its neighbourhood. At that time there were very few hospitals of the scale we dreamt either in private or in charitable sector.
The dream is now a reality. The hospital stands to-day as a testimonyof the unstinted devotion and dedication of many of the Rotarians of our club and Overseas Rotary Clubs. ARH is a Multi Crore project, being executed in phases. An amount of over 1.5 crores has been invested till date with a built up area of about 12000 sq.feet. This is located as 1st Main Road, Ambattur Industrial Estate, Chennai :58,India. This is a Modern, Multispeciality, Super Speciality and a service hospital. Almost every Rotarian of our club and their families contributed to its growth in one way or other.
Infrastructure
Ambattur Rotary Hospital is a Twenty bedded hospital. It has separate male and female ward, maternity ward and private Air-conditioned wards. Air-conditioned operation theatre and labour room cum operation theatre provide the necessary infrastructure for all minor and major surgeries. It has a modern clinical laboratory with auto analyzers. It offers clinical pathology, biochemistry and microbiological investigations. The department of imaging sciences has a large 500ma X-Ray unit and another mobile 60ma unit. Two Ultrasound units - one mobile and another large sophisticated unit are used in Sonographic studies.
The Cardiac status of the patient is evaluated by a modern ECG machine and a sophisticated treadmill system. A well established physiotherapy unit helps in the convalescence and recovery of patients with varying disorders like stroke, fractures, arthritis and other disabilities. It has over 22 departments with 50 plus specialists and super specialists.It conducts regular academic programmes- Clinical meetings and other academic sessions. Para medical personnel from Mother Theresa institute are being trained at the hospital in the medical laboratory technologies and Radiographic techniques.
Funds
Ambattur Rotary Hospital is run by Ambattur Rotary Charitable Trust. The land, an Acre plot was purchased from SIDCO at cost of Rs.1 lakh. The hospital was started in 1988/89 as a small out patient dispensary with one medical officer and has over 35 staff on roll and many other visiting staff. The funds for the hospital building was raised by several fund raising programmes and other donations. Equipments were purchased with funds from our club and matching grants obtained from several clubs all over the world. Matching Grants were obtained from Rotary Club of Galston, Australia, Rotary Club of Millpoint, UK., Rotary Club of Orange, USA., Rotary Club of Muenster, Germany, Rotary Club of Redhill, UK., Rotary Club of Mountainview, California, USA., and other Rotary Clubs.
Our Services
Ambattur Rotary Hsopital regularly conducts "Free Health Camps". Eye Screening camps, Diabetes screening camps, Well woman check up, Dental check up and Cancer screening camps were conducted in the past years. From this year onwards, ARH is planning to conduct one camp every month a silver jubilee year dream. Over 120, totally free Cataract surgeries were undertaken during 2003-04. It is now a major referral center for burns, plastic surgery, road traffic accidents. Industrial injury and pollution/toxic fumes related industrial accidents. Future plans include starting of departments like nephrology and dialysis.
Our Dream
Ambattur Rotary Hospital stands today as a testimony of " International collaboration through Rotary" and serves as monument of community service being rendered by Rotarians of Rotary Club of Ambattur.
