The Voluntary Health Services is a well-known charitable institution for Medicare in Chennai. Apart from providing the land for the blood bank, it also provides technical assistance. The TTK group are known for bringing corporate governance to charitable and social service institutions. With their decades old experience in the field of voluntary blood donation, they have taken the responsibility of the day-to-day running of the blood bank on an efficient and non profit basis.

The Rotary Club of Madras Central has not only provided all the ultra modern equipments for the blood bank but has also constructed a 5000 square feet building to house the blood bank.

Inauguration of Madras Central TTK VHS Blood BankThis Charitable group has evolved standard strategy for Quality preparation of Blood and Blood components. This Blood Bank is practising the state of Art in the Blood Banking, in the preparation and processing of Quality Red Cell Concentrate, Fresh Frozen Plasma, platelet concentrate and cryoprecipitate. After the amalgamations the V.H.S Blood Bank is widening its service to the needy patients to provide adequate quantity of Blood and Blood Components.

This service is available although 24 hours of a day. We seek the Co-operation of patients and the Medical fraternity for continuous supply and utilization of Quality and safe Blood and Blood Components.

Activities and the work load in handling Whole Blood and Blood components at Rotary Central TTK VHS Blood Bank is steadily increasing day by day. Based on the last 4 years performance (financial year basis - April to March) of the Blood Bank is highlighted in the following areas:

The number of Camps held in the year 1999-2000 was 54. With the help of Rotary Clubs, MVBB, Social workers and motivation carried out by Blood Bank staffs, the number of camps conducted in each year increased at the rate of 10-15%. The number of camps conducted in 2002-03 was 121. In this financial year the number of camps to be conducted is estimated at 135. The following table indicated the blood camps conducted in the last 4 years.

Due to increase in number of camps, the number of units of blood collected also proportionately increased in the last 4 years. In 1999-2000 the number of Blood units collected was 5008 and in the year 2002-2003 the number of blood units collected was 9044 an increase of 95%. For the current financial year the target of voluntary blood collection units fixed at 10500. The following table gives the picture of performance of the Blood Bank in Organizing collection of blood units in the last 4 years.
