In the absence of a Govt. Hospital within a radius of 10 Kms, the Hospital is doing yeoman service to the community with the objective of giving the best possible treatment at a very reasonable cost; the cost being charged only to meet the expenditure incurred on the provision of facilities. Apart from this, poor patients are also being treated free of cost both in respect of consultation as well as free dispensing of medicines.
History
In the year 1970, an organization by the name of 'Ganesh Mandali' started a 'Health Centre' in a small hut on the 2nd main Road, Nanganallur, a suburb of Chennai, to cater to the medical needs of poor patients in and around Nanganallur wherein no Government Hospital existed in a radius of 10 Kms. In the year 1971 the then Chairman of M/s Engine Valves Ltd. Sri L.L.Narayan in order to improve the health center joined hands with the Ganesh Mandali Group and formed the 'Ganesh Mandali Engine Valves Trust' and thereafter the Trust acquired 4.5 ground of land in Nanganallur.
In 1973 during his visit to India, The Chairman of M/s Engine Valves Ltd. Mr.Sidney Lewis spontaneously gave a generous donation of Sterling Pounds 10000 to the hospital which was thereafter named as 'Margaret Sidney Hospital'. A new building was then constructed at the present site and inaugurated by then Governor of Tamil Nadu Shri.M.Shukhadia in 1977.
Management
In the initial years, the Ganesh Mandali Engine Valves Trust was finding it difficult to run the hospital on a day-to-day basis. Thereafter in the year 1983, at the behest of Past District Governor of Rotary District 3230 Rtn.Late.K.S.Srinivasan and the Rotary Club of Madras Central's Charter President Rtn.C.R.Ramakrishnan, the management of the Hospital was transferred to the Rotary Club of Madras Central. The Rotary Club of Madras Central since then appoints 11 of its Rotarians as trustees of Ganesh Mandali Engine Valves Trust who are managing the Hospital.
Shri.V.S.Raghavan, a retired Senior Manager of Indian Airlines has been co-opted as Honorary Executive Trustee in the year 1999 and currently he is handling the day to day Management of the hospital.
